Leatherwork: A First Easy Project

Made a simple leather cuff today! This gave me practice with snaps and spots. Also with simple cutting since this was  from a leather belt. First make sure that your leather belt is supple enough to curve around your wrist. Mine was 2" wide.

Measure your wrist and add 2 to 2 1/2 inches to that measurement. The smaller amount if you want the cuff snug the larger amount if you want it a little loose.
Cut your leather to length and dye the edges.

You will need a snap, snap setter, leather punch, and spots.

Set your snap. Check your fit. Then set your spots in a random or predetermined pattern.

Enjoy your new creation and make one for a friend!

Just Paint!

"You can't sit around thinking. You have to sit around writing."     David Long

Why do I paint like I expect to become famous?

Three more oil pastels on brown paper. Freeing to just paint without expectations. These come fast and without pretense.

Ugly Painting Day

Today I designated "Ugly Painting Day" and painted three paintings on brown Kraft paper in about three hours using oil pastels on the first two and craft acrylics on the third. Very therapeutic!

Plein Aire Painting!

Found! Plein Aire Painters of the Bluegrass near enough for me to paint with! Enjoyed the first paint-out and excited about the next one coming up November 4 at a former distillery turned bed and breakfast.

Two Plein Aire Paintings

This 9"x 12" acrylic was painted in a park in Versailles today in about two hours.

This 6"x 8" acrylic was painted behind my home yesterday in about 2 hours.

30 Paintings in 30 Days-Painting #13

"New Moon"
6"x6" Encaustic

We didn't have to drive the truck too far, just down to the field by the barn, for this view of the new moon.  From a photo taken by Alan on the evening of September 15, 2015, marking the Day of Trumpets.

30 Paintings in 30 Days-Day 8, Painting #3

"Summer Fasination"
6"x6" Encaustic, Wasp's Nest, Paper

Found this abandoned nest and liked the contrast of the paper wasp nest and paper lace. Kind of a good, bad, ugly feel!

Inspired by the breath of fresh cool evening air that you sometimes forget you need.

30 Paintings in 30 Days-Day 3

"Sapphire Wheels"

This 6"x6" encaustic is inspired by a story in Ezekiel about a vision of wheels and sapphire.

30 Paintings in 30 Days

A day behind, but here we go!

This is a painting project I'm currently working on that has to be completed as a prop...so yesterday this is what I was working on. Today I plan to do a small 6"x6" painting as a start of 30...28 daily paintings for the month of September.

Norton Center Press Release
MUSIC SCENES examines the relationship between visual art and music, with selected artwork including paintings, photography, fiber art, collage, and mixed media.  Exclusively featuring artists throughout Kentucky, “Music Scenes” is an exhibition curated, organized by and presented in cooperation with the Kentucky Arts Council.

Primarily a performing arts venue, it makes sense to feature an exhibit of artwork at the Norton Center with each piece somehow connected to music.  As a whole, the show offers a depth of interpretation by a breadth of Kentucky artists.  Perfect for individuals, families, and groups, this exhibit is a terrific sensory experience.

Wings, Wheels, Eyes

Encaustic based on Ezikiel 11.

Studio work today is reworking several encaustics that didn't make the cut. Excavating, or scraping back, will give me a nice textural surface to work out a fresh idea on.

Chia Cherry Lemonade

Fill a 10-12 ounce glass 1/4 full with water, add 2 tablespoons chia seeds and stir. Add 2-3 tablespoons tart cherry concentrate, juice from 1 lemon, and stevia to taste. Stir. Add ice and water to top!
